Inaba creamy treats are available at most online retailers including our go to store – Pet Circle.
The creamy treats come in a 14g tube in a convenient 4 pack. They’re typically found around the $5 price point but you can sometimes be found in variety tubs for a bit cheaper.
History
Inaba Foods has a fascinating history with its origins dating back as far as 1805. Back then, a gentleman by the name of Mr. Yoshizo began a seafood business harvesting tuna to sell to local customers. By 1958, his company had also expanded into the pet food market. And by 1989, the modern day company Inaba was born!
These days, Inaba are a treat specialist for both cats and dogs and they’re most well known for their irresistible creamy treats. Despite focusing soley on pet treats, Inaba still generates hundreds of millions of dollars in sales. This is a testament to how good their product is and their popularity amongst cat owners.
As a global company, they continue to grow in Asia, Europe and America and innovate with treat variations beyond creamy treats. Pet owners are definitely taking notice of the brand and keeping an eye out for what they might make next!
Recalls
To date, Inaba cat food has not been recalled. In Australia, pet food recalls are only mandatory for brands that have decided to work within the Australian Standard for Manufacturing and Marketing of Pet Food (Standard AS5812:2017). All members of the Pet Food Industry Association of Australia comply with these standards. At the time of publishing, Inaba is not a member of the Association.
Product line commentary
Today, we’re taking a look at Inaba Churu Skin and Coat – Tuna with Scallop creamy treat. Although we’re looking at the tuna and scallop formula, the skin and coat product line comes in a variety of different flavours. So if tuna and scallop doesn’t tickle your cat’s fancy, they have plenty of delicious flavour variants like tuna or chicken with scallop.
World’s most popular creamy treat?
With its signature flavours carried by almost all the major Australian pet shops, I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that Churus are the world’s most popular creamy treat.
What’s the draw to Churu? Firstly, Inaba specializes in treats – with (Churu) creamy treats being their flagship product. They have mastered the texture and flavours that seem to make cats go wild. This tuna and scallop flavour combines some highly palatable seafood flavours that will appeal to most cats.
With a very high approval rating from our kitties, it makes it an easy choice for us, cat parents . If we dive a bit deeper into the ingredients, there aren’t many details around the ingredients. Protein ingredients like tuna can only be wild caught tuna – but could be less quality parts of the tuna like offcuts. There’s minimal information on the website about their ingredients and sourcing. They do mention that their tuna is certified dolphin safe (similar to most canned tuna).
Regarding their manufacturing process, the food is developed in FDA approved facilities, which means Inaba would follow human food production practices.
A little something extra in this treat
Churu produces a variety of different style of creamy treats which are catered towards different benefits. This tuna with scallop formula is geared towards improving your cat’s skin and coat. The main difference between this product line and the basic Churu’s is the inclusion of fish oil and soybean oil. While we’re a fan of the inclusion of fish oil, we could do without the soybean oil. We see this as a cheaper vegetarian option for including fatty acids and omega oils.
Creamy treats like all wet food require binders, and Churu uses guar gum, which are common in wet foods for texture and consistency. However, tapioca starch can also contribute to the overall carbohydrate content, which we would prefer it to be omitted.
Laslty, one of the nice things about creamy treats is the extra hydration you get vs dry treats. Most creamy treats will have over 80% moisture, making it on par with wet food products. While it’s not a substitute for feeding wet food, it’s a nice addition.
In summary, this creamy treat comes in at 9.2 kcal per tube (14g), which is a little bit more than other creamy treats we have reviewed in the past. Nothing to worry about though if you’re only feeding occasionally!

Indy’s review

So does Indy the cat like it?
Indy is like most cats in that he absolutely loves his creamy treats. I can’t say that he’s particular about flavours, so if you’re looking for something with some added benefits, I would steer towards specialised product lines like this one.
Indy approved and I’m pretty sure it will be approved by your cat(s) too.
